VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV are still negotiating the transfer fee for Josha Vagnoman. But the change of defender could already take place in the coming days.

Hamburger SV will start their training camp in Austria this Saturday. Josha Vagnoman will probably not go on the business trip with his club because, according to information from our editorial team, the move to VfB Stuttgart is on the home stretch. The defender could possibly start the pre-season with his new club on Monday.

Both parties still disagree on the amount of the fee. But this shouldn’t change anything about the matter – i.e. the way the transfer came about. In the end, the deal will probably go through for four to five million euros, and a four-year contract is available for the 21-year-old. He would be VfB’s first signing for the new season.

Born in Hamburg to an Ivorian father and a German mother, he has spent his entire (football) life in the far north. He moved from Hummelsbütteler SV to Hamburger Sportverein in 2010, where he recently made a name for himself primarily as a right-back. Vagnoman would have liked to have stayed in Hamburg; after the failed promotion relegation, however, it was clear to him that he wanted to switch to the Bundesliga. Two other Bundesliga clubs that are in a better sporting position than VfB would also have liked to have signed the eight-time German U-21 international. In the end, however, the perspective under coach Pellegrino Matarazzo should have been decisive for the player. Now VfB sports director Sven Mislintat and his Hamburg colleague Jonas Boldt only have to agree.
