Energy prices: Support measures extended until the end of 2022, aid for condominiums

The deadline was due to expire on September 30. “We were committed to evaluating the measures before the summer,” recalled Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open Vld) during a press conference held after a kern. The current measures are therefore extended for an additional quarter: extended social tariff, 6% VAT on gas and electricity, reduction in excise duties on fuels. According to the Minister of the Economy, Pierre-Yves Dermagne (PS), this represents a budgetary effort of nearly 1.4 billion euros by the end of the year. In addition, the oil and propane check will be upgraded from 200 to 225 euros.

In addition, the government has decided to “correct the anomaly” for condominiums. They were not entitled to the reduced VAT on gas. “It will now be possible,” said Mr. Dermagne. A budget of 70 million will be devoted to this aid. The reduction in VAT on gas will also be accessible to nursing homes, hospitals, non-profit organizations or even municipalities, added the Minister of Finance, Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V).

“These measures have a direct impact on the bill but should not make us forget that accelerating the energy transition and insulating our homes are the best measures to structurally reduce the energy bill. The energy you don’t not use is the cheapest energy. The VAT reduction for solar panels, heat pumps and solar water heaters runs until the end of 2023”, for her part recalled the Minister of Energy , Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen), in front of the press.
