Internacional confirmed, this Saturday morning (6), the hiring of defender Igor Gomes, who played for Barcelona’s B team. The 21-year-old had been in Porto Alegre since last weekend and underwent medical and physical examinations due to his recent injury history. The defender signed a definitive contract until the end of 2023.

Igor Gomes can also play as a right-back, which coincides with the muscle injury of Rodrigo Moledo, who should be out of action during the month of August. In addition to the newcomer, Gabriel Mercado, Vitão and Kaique Rocha are the other options in Mano Menezes’ cast.

The 1.85m defender was hired in 2018 for the Barcelona youth team, aged 18, for 350 thousand euros, the equivalent of R$1.47 million at the time. Igor Gomes did not play for the Spanish club’s main team and also does not have passages in professional teams in Brazil.

In terms of basic categories, Igor defended the under-20 team of Coimbra, from Minas Gerais, and stood out in Volta Redonda, at age 18, in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. The defender also has a call-up for the Brazilian under-20 team. In addition to the defender, Inter is still looking for more reinforcements for the defense and for the midfield of Mano Menezes, sectors most ‘needed’ for replacement in Colorado.
