The Hessen League football club FC Gießen can present the first small contours of the squad for the 2022/23 season. Preparations should start on June 24th.

(sno). Little by little, the FC Gießen squad is beginning to take shape: The future Hessen League club, which was relegated from the Regionalliga Südwest and subsequently gave up almost its entire team, is facing an unprecedented change in personnel on this scale.

In the last few days, the club, which will also be coached by Daniyel Cimen in 2022/23, announced the first six fixed players who will soon appear at the Giessen Waldstadion.

The most recent newcomers are 27-year-old Wessam Abdel-Ghani (last FC Hanau 93) and the two Mika Gärtner and Mika Funk, who have moved up from their own A youth team.

There are also goalkeeper Daniel Duschner (27, most recently RW Frankfurt) and the two veterans from the previous season, Michael Fink (40, playing assistant coach) and Aykut Öztürk (34).

Defender Abdel-Ghani played for Eintracht Stadtallendorf from 2017 to 2019 and was a permanent fixture in the Regionalliga Südwest for two years. The two from the A-Youth, Gärtner and Funk, drew attention to themselves as goalscorers and captains in the local Hessen League. Keeper Duschner has played for the RW Frankfurt association league since 2017.

Coach Cimen recently said: “I am optimistic that we will have a framework by the time preparations start on June 24th. We are in talks every day.«

Emergency board member Turgay Schmidt had already announced at the beginning of May that FC would start and provide a team. It is uncertain how the second team, which has also been relegated (to the group league), is doing. PHOTO: IMAGO
