“First time straight on the pedals”: Egan Bernal takes another step towards returning to the peloton after serious accident

Things are getting better with Egan Bernal (25), who had a serious accident at the end of January during training. The former Tour and Giro winner has been on his bike a while back, but still had to take it easy. On Sunday evening, the Colombian shared a video of his training. “First time straight on the pedals,” he captioned it.

Riding straight on the pedals is another step towards his return to the pack. Recently it was reported that Bernal would like to return at the end of this month. But is that feasible? Last month we regularly saw photos of Bernal passing by with a walking stick, only now he can train standing up on the pedals.

At the beginning of January, Bernal crashed heavily in his home country with his time trial bike on a stationary truck. He broke several bones, including eleven ribs, two vertebrae, a femur and a kneecap. Last week Bernal returned to Europe to ramp up the training effort.

Bernal will not ride a big round this year, the Ineos Grenadiers rider already announced at the beginning of April.
