To celebrate, he will treat the fans to 2,023 kebab sandwiches at the first home game of the new season against Eintracht Frankfurt, his club announced in a playful announcement on Wednesday.

Boateng, now 35, could no longer count on a base place at Hertha last season, which was able to secure retention in the Bundesliga through the jump-offs. In those barrage duels against HSV, however, he claimed a leading role and that was now rewarded with a contract extension at the club where he also went through the youth series.
During his career, Boateng played for no fewer than fourteen clubs, including Dortmund, Tottenham, AC Milan and FC Barcelona. His younger half-brother Jérôme Boateng, meanwhile at Olympique Lyon, played for the German national eleven.
