Today Beerschot has only just announced summer transfer number six with Ibrahim Alhassan and number seven is already there. As announced earlier, that is Hervé Matthys, whose last name you pronounce as ‘Mattis’ for clarity.

Matthys is a 26-year-old left-footed central defender who can also break as a left back. In Belgium he played football as a youth player at Cercle Brugge, Club Brugge and Anderlecht. He also signed his first professional contract with Anderlecht, but he did not get further than one substitute in the Belgian Cup. Matthys subsequently played seven more matches in the Jupiler Pro League on a rental basis at Westerlo.

At the age of 21 he moved to the Netherlands, where he already has more than 100 professional matches on the counter. Matthys comes transfer-free from the Dutch second division team ADO Den Haag. He completed his medical tests on Thursday and will be officially presented on Friday. After Quirynen, Verlinden, Baeten, Lathouwers and Nzita, Matthys is the sixth Belgian newcomer to Beerschot.
