The Disciplinary Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has reprimanded the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for violating the organisation’s code of ethics. About it reported on the IIHF website.
“The essence of the reprimand is that the Russian Ice Hockey Federation was under an obligation to vigilantly monitor the behavior of teams and leagues under its jurisdiction, that it did not, and in the future it must be vigilant and take immediate measures to ensure that this type of behavior was no longer left without attention and without control, ”the message says.
Tardif said there was no negative attitude towards Russia in the IIHF
It is noted that the IIHF Ethics Council in March 2022 referred to the Disciplinary Council a case on a possible violation of the code of ethics due to “propaganda of military operations in Ukraine” by clubs and leagues under its jurisdiction, and the failure of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation to take any measures to preventing violations or reporting them.
It is also reported that the disciplinary board, when deciding on this case, took into account that the posters shown by the fans did not look man-made and then appeared in different arenas, as well as the fact that the clubs decided to publish photos with such messages on their social media accounts. .
“The board also took note of the lack of evidence that teams or the league have taken any action to restrict such posters from being brought into arenas by fans. <...> Posters or billboards showing support for or propaganda of military action in Ukraine are inappropriate in arenas or hockey, and their appearance constitutes a violation of article 2.2.1 (“Dignity”) of the IIHF code of ethics, ”the statement says .
