It doesn’t stop with transfers in Mechelen either. After the departure of Cuypers earlier this week, Malinois attracted Yonas Malede the day after. Today, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder Ilyas Lefrancq is added. He signed a two-year contract with an option for a third on Friday. Lefrancq left the youth academy of KV Mechelen for OHL six years ago, but now returns to the Kakkers.

“Ilyas is known as a great talent”, says Tom Caluwé, sporting director at Malinois. “I saw him busy with the promises and was immediately impressed. He can play on the flank as well as on 10 and is very strong in one-on-one.”

“I know many boys who are now also in the A-team”, says Lefrancq, who has been involved in the Mechelen youth academy for two years.

“I know Senne Carleer very well and I have also played together with Dylan Dassy, Jojo Amuzu and Kobe Bohets. That will certainly help with my integration here. When I see the field in front of me, I can’t wait to get started,” the Morocco U20 youth international continues.

On Friday, Ilyas Lefrancq completed his medical tests and was introduced to the squad. He is expected in training on Monday.
