Romelu Lukaku is better. Much better. The Devils top scorer has just scored three goals in his last two games. Two games he started in the shoes of a holder. A first for more than three months.
Will Thomas Tuchel trust his striker in the FA Cup final this weekend? The mystery remains intact even if Romelu Lukaku has proven that he can render great services to the Blues.
The other question is whether or not London’s new leaders will rely on number nine. There too, no definitive answer has yet been recorded. For La Repubblica, Federico Pastorello gave some information about next season. “I’m not the one to discuss technical choices. But it’s obvious there was a problem”, he began. He still wanted to defend the Belgian’s record. “Despite this, the numbers have to be analysed. Even with less playing time than his teammates, he is the club’s top scorer this season.”
Indeed, in 2584 minutes, the striker shook the net 15 times. When his direct competitor, Kai Havert, scored 13 times in… 3142 minutes. But the German hasn’t always played as a number nine. Despite these honorable statistics, the leaders of Chelsea, and certainly Big Rom’ himself, hoped for better from this return to great fanfare last summer.
One thing is certain, he no longer wants to live the same season. “The situation must be carefully assessed”, added the intermediary. But not right away, because Chelsea still have a lot of deadlines at the end of the season. “Now there is a place in the Champions League to secure, and the FA Cup final. Romelu is totally focused on that. At the moment we haven’t talked about anything else.”
Despite these important meetings, rumors are already rife. “It is nonsense to speculate on the negotiations”cut Federico Pastorello. “Chelsea have just completed the takeover of the club. We still don’t know our new contacts. And we know even less if we can hypothesize talks with Inter, AC Milan or whatever. We have to be patient and wait.”
