THE world Cup held in Qatar is the reason for many protests since the host country was chosen due to problems with human rights. Some teams competing in the World Cup were thinking about holding a protest in support of the LGBTQIA+ cause and against prejudice.

And according to reports and outbursts by journalist Victor Pereira on his social network, he and another group of volunteers went through a situation of embarrassment and fear in Qatar when trying to enter the stadium with the one from the state of Pernambuco. However, the accessory was confused with that of the LGBTQIA+ cause, a prohibited symbol in the Middle Eastern country.

Victor and those who were with him were approached by the police because of this confusion: “Guys, I’m nervous here. I’m shaking, in fact, because we had the Pernambuco flag. I’m here with some volunteers. I was attacked by some Members here from Qatar and police. They came at the girls thinking it was an LGBT flag, but it’s actually just the flag of Pernambuco”.

He added in the report: “I went to film and they took my phone and only gave it back forcing me to delete the video I made. I only got my cell phone back because I deleted the video I made. This is absurd because we have authorization from Fifa to film everything in the stadium.”
