The adventure of Dutch football coach John van den Brom with the Saudi first division team Al Taawon was only short-lived. After a partnership of 37 days, the club communicated via social media that they are parting ways.

Van den Brom was brought in at the end of March to avoid relegation to the second division. With four days to go, the dismissal is striking to say the least. Van den Brom only lost his first league match on Thursday, 0-4 to El Ettifaq. In recent weeks, he has been active with the club in the Asian Champions League. There were two wins, three losses and a draw.

In the standings in the Saudi Premier League, Al Taawon is fourteenth, out of sixteen teams. The last three are relegated. There are four more games on the schedule.

The 55-year-old Dutchman was fired from Racing Genk at the beginning of December, due to disappointing results. The season before, he had led the Limburgers to second place in the final standings and cup win.

Al-Taawon was Van den Brom’s third employer outside the Netherlands. He previously worked in our country as head coach at RSC Anderlecht. In the Netherlands he coached AZ, FC Utrecht and Vitesse, among others.

The club did not (yet) communicate the reason behind the termination of the collaboration.
