Rubro-Negro returns to the field next Wednesday (11), to face Altos (PI), for the return game of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil
Flamengo was beaten by Botafogo, by 1 to 0, on the morning of this Sunday (8), for the fifth round of the Série A of the Brasileirão. In the second half, Erison scored the only goal of the game. Gabigol even went to the nets in the initial stage, but saw his goal disallowed for offside.
The rivals entered the field with the same five points, occupying the second part of the table. Now, Glorioso went to eight and reached fifth place, while Fla was in 14th place. Rubro-Negro is just two points away from the relegation zone.
The negative result increased the pressure on the squad and even more, on Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, especially after the recent controversial statements of his countryman Jorge Jesus, ex-commander of the Rio de Janeiro club. After the defeat, journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira mocked the criticism towards Paulo Sousa, presenting the team’s numbers on the field and pointing to the team’s performance, as the main problem for the current moment.
“Paulo Sousa kicks very badly and doesn’t know how to head”, commented Mauro. He also presented a survey from SofaScore Brasil, noting that Flamengo appears as the 2nd worst in the championship in terms of missed chances (12) and leader in great missed opportunities (9). In the total percentage of clear chances, it has one of the four worst performances, with only 25%.
