The chanting of the name of Vladimir Putin by the fans of the Fenerbahce football club during the match with Dynamo (Kyiv) has nothing to do with the fine imposed on them by UEFA. This was announced to RBC Sport by the honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov.
“For some reason, everyone focuses on chanting Putin’s name, but there were firecrackers and objects thrown there. In fact, it may turn out that Putin has nothing to do with it. They could chant Macron, and Bush, and whoever you want. But what they threw was the main thing, it seems to me. Therefore, everything is fair, everything is according to the rules. And the president of the club can continue to talk about double, triple, quadruple standards, ”said Koloskov.
Fenerbahce refuses to apologize for chanting Putin’s name
UEFA fined the Turkish Fenerbahce €50,000 and punished it with a partial closure of the stadium stands during the next home match of European competitions for the behavior of the club’s fans during the meeting with Dynamo Kyiv.
During the return match of the second qualifying round of the Champions League, which was held in Istanbul on July 27, Fenerbahce fans, after a goal conceded in the 57th minute, began to chant the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Also, the fans of the Turkish club during the match burned pyrotechnics and threw various objects from the stands onto the football field.
After the incident, club president Ali Koch said that Fenerbahce would not apologize to Ukraine for the fans chanting the name of the Russian president.
