European champion Mark Kondratyuk takes first place after the short program at the fifth stage of the Russian Grand Prix – the Volga Pirouette tournament in Samara.
His result was 102.84 points.
The second result was shown by Andrey Mozalev (97.61), the third – by Gleb Lutfullin (92.77).
Single skaters will show a free program on Sunday.
Kondratyuk became the champion of Russia and Europe last season. At the Beijing Olympics, he won gold as part of the Russian team, but the medals at the end of the tournament were not awarded due to the doping scandal around Kamila Valieva. In the personal tournament of the Olympics, Kondratyuk became 15th.
Russian skaters are currently unable to compete internationally due to a suspension by the International Skating Union (ISU). As an alternative, the Russian Grand Prix series was created.
