In an exclusive dialogue with RedGol, Leandro Benegas addresses his great moment in Argentine football, where he is the starting center forward for Independiente de Avellaneda with nine goals in 19 games, and is placed under the command of the new Chilean national team coach, Eduardo Berizzo, for when you want to have their services.
Independiente fans still vibrate with Leandro Benegas’s dive, the contortion of his head and the precise impact that became his ninth goal in 19 games with the Rojo shirt, the 1-0 partial victory over Estudiantes in the Libertadores de America stadium. El Toro is on a roll and he knows that forwards live on it.
In an exclusive conversation with Redgol, the attacker from Mendoza and nationalized Chilean assumes his best moment in Argentine soccer. “I have taken it very calmly, calmly and with balance. Football has these things and one takes it well, in the best way, enjoying it; but knowing that now this has to be defended more than ever,” says Benegas.
For this reason, he prefers not to lose his head with the idea of reinforcing Colo Colo in the winter market. “Here we are in a tournament and I didn’t want to lose focus on what matters most today, which is defending Independiente in every game. (…) We have to go for more, there is no time to relax or anything,” the striker points out. .
In the soccer family, the name of Benegas has slowly risen as a candidate to join the next cycle of the Chilean team. El Toro was summoned to Reinaldo Rueda’s cycle, during his time with Palestino in 2020, and was on the bench against Colombia for the qualifiers. For this reason, he feels that his present can be translated into a new chance.
“The truth is that everything that is happening is beautiful, what has been happening in recent weeks and the last time I have been in Argentina. so prettyand I have already said that if the opportunity to represent Chile is given again, I will do it with great enthusiasm and a lot of love, the one I have for Chile”, emphasizes Benegas.
It is that despite being in a great one in Argentina, he is still aware of Chilean football, where he played between 2012 and 2021. And especially, from Curicó Unido: “I have many friends left in Curicó, several with whom I continue to talk, asking about the family and how is everyone, like Pepe (José Rojas) or Ronald (de la Fuente)”.
“I left a very good relationship so we are always talking, and they tell me that they are going well, that in the first round they made a nice difference and are looking forward to qualifying for an international cup, which would be important for the city and the club”, concludes the former man from Unión La Calera, Universidad de Chile, Audax Italiano, Palestino and Curi.
The next instance for the Chilean team will be at the end of September, when Eduardo Berizzo faces his second FIFA date with La Roja and the first in which he will be able to make the payroll. At the moment there are no known possible rivals for the penultimate day of international matches in 2022.
