Martin Rodriguez leaves behind a tortuous passage through the Altay of Turkey and is officially a new reinforcement of the D.C. United, United States Major League Soccer club. It was the same North American team that reported in Spanish what was already a fait accompli.

“DC United has signed the Chilean point guard Martín Rodríguez”, confirmed the Washington team, adding that the reinforcement comes through “a permanent transfer using Specific Assignment Money (TAM) from Altay SK in the Super League, the First Division of Turkish football”.

The DC complements that the player is “pending his P-1 visa and the International Transfer Certificate (ITC). When the Major League Soccer secondary transfer window officially opens on July 7, Rodríguez will be incorporated into the Rojinegros.”

Also, the president of soccer operations of DC United stated that “Martin is a dynamic attacking player in the best stage of his career and we are delighted to add him to our club to strengthen our offense. We have followed Martin for a long time and he has performed at the highest level for his club and his national team. We are acquiring a quality attacker who has played several games for the Chilean national team and who has experience with the best clubs in Liga MX. We are very happy to bring in someone with his level of experience and skill. We think he will be an impactful player for us from the start.”

The signing of Tin in the MLS is a setback for colo colo, which had him among Gustavo Quinteros’ reinforcement requests for the second semester. Finally, the offer of the Americans definitively diluted any hope of the white DT.

Rodríguez debuted in Huachipato in 2011 to later defend Colo Colo (in two periods), Cruz Azul, Pumas UNAM, Monarcas Morelia, Mazatlán and Altay Spor Kulübü. At DC United he arrives about to turn 28 on August 5.

“Rodríguez has represented Chile, where he made his debut with the national team on September 10, 2014, when he was only 20 years old. He scored his first international goal on June 25, 2017 against Australia in a 1-1 draw at the 2017 Confederations Cup. The striker helped Chile to second place in the tournament after losing to Germany 1-0 in the final. In total, Rodríguez has scored a goal and has given two assists in 12 games with Chile”, sentences the new Tin team.
