National time trial championships: Van Dijk again Dutch champion, Ganna hits the Italian tricolor

Ellen van Dijk became Dutch time trial champion for the fifth time on Wednesday in Emmen. That was no surprise. The 35-year-old Trek-Segafredo rider is reigning world champion and broke the world hour record in May.

Van Dijk finished 29.4 kilometers with a time of 35.55. The silver went to Shirin van Anrooij, who conceded for over a minute. Bronze went to Riejanne Markus. Van Dijk was previously national champion in 2007, 2012, 2013 and 2018.

Last year, Anna van der Breggen was still the best, but the 2016 Olympic road champion ended her career last fall.

In Italy, the men were allowed to hit the road for their ride against the clock. There were no surprises there either. Reigning world champion Filippo Ganna became Italian time trial champion for the third time. He beat Mattia Cattaneo and Edoardo Affini.
