Sven Ulreich will stay with FC Bayern. The goalkeeper and substitute for Manuel Neuer has extended his contract until 2023.

Munich – The FC Bayern works through the pending contract extensions bit by bit. Sven Ulrich has extended his contract in Munich. The goalkeeper and substitute for captain Manuel Neuer signs a new working paper until June 30, 2023.

“FC Bayern has become like a family over the years. I look forward to another year here. The task behind a world goalkeeper like Manuel Neuer I enjoy it, we have a friendly, collegial relationship with each other,” said Ulreich about the contract extension. Of the FC Bayern Munich can therefore continue to rely on Ulreich’s services should regular keeper Neuer drop out.

FC Bayern: Goalkeeper Ulreich is a reliable new replacement

Ulreich switched from VfB Stuttgart to FC Bayern in 2015 and is already in his seventh season with Munich. In the 2020/21 season, the 33-year-old played for Hamburger SV but missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga. Last summer, Neuer’s back-up returned to die Säbener Street return. Ulreich has played 78 competitive games for Bayern so far. He won the championship six times, the DFB Cup three times, the German Supercup five times, the Champions League and the European Supercup.

Ulreich could be relied on in eight games this season. In the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League in a 1-1 draw at RB Salzburg, he confidently replaced Neuer, who was injured at the time. His last game was the 3-1 draw in the Bundesliga in Mainz a week ago. In the last Bundesliga home game of the season against Ulreich’s former club Stuttgart on Sunday (May 8, 5:30 p.m.), Neuer is likely to return to the Munich goal.

FC Bayern: Ulreich’s contract extension – will Neuer soon follow suit?

Ulreich is now ready for another year as a new representative. The contract with Manuel Neuer also runs until 2023, but FC Bayern is working on extending it by at least another year. Neuer should see the extension of Ulreich as a positive signal for a further trusting cooperation. Teammate Thomas Müller has already extended his contract with FC Bayern. (ck)
