Christian Benteke leaves the Premier League after ten years. The 31-year-old striker moves from Crystal Palace to DC United in the MLS. The clubs announced this on Friday evening.
In 2012, Benteke moved from Racing Genk to Aston Villa for more than 8 million euros, three years later he decorated a top transfer: for 46 million euros to Liverpool. The striker was unable to fully persevere there, and a year later he moved to Crystal Palace, where he eventually played six seasons. In total, Benteke scored 86 goals in the Premier League. Last season, Benteke was no longer an undisputed base player at Crystal Palace, now he is opting for a new adventure.
Wayne Rooney: “He will make a big difference”
At DC United, Benteke will be coached by none other than Wayne Rooney. “Christian is a top player who has been playing at the highest level for a long time,” Rooney said on the club’s website. “His experience and scoring ability will help the team. We look forward to having him there, he will make a big difference.”
DC United and Crystal Palace reached an agreement on the last night of the transfer window in the United States. The team of Wayne Rooney is therefore in distress: after 22 match days it is the very last in the MLS. It’s up to Benteke to change that.
