Aurélien Tchouaméni (22) will sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid. The Royal announced this on Saturday. The French defensive midfielder is leaving Philippe Clement’s AS Monaco as expected.
The transfer would involve a basic amount of eighty million euros. The maximum amount, including bonuses, would be higher than one hundred million euros.
Tchouaméni’s name has been on Real Madrid’s wish list for quite some time. The Frenchman, together with his compatriot Eduardo Camavinga, must become the face of the new midfield. The Royals won the Champions League again this year with veterans Luka Modric (36), Toni Kroos (32) and Casemiro (30), but fresh blood was needed. Camavinga came over from Stade Rennes for just over thirty million euros and has had a strong debut season.
Since January 2020, Tchouaméni has played for Monaco, the club of coach Philippe Clement. At the time, the Monegasques paid about twenty million euros for his services to Bordeaux. He has made 95 official appearances in the principality in recent years, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. This season, he played no fewer than 50 club matches.
Tchouaméni, who has so far collected nine caps with the French national team, will be officially presented on Tuesday after his medical examination. He is Real’s second summer signing after the free transfer of German defender Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea).
