For twenty-year-old Swiatek it was already the 25th victory in a row. It has been since 2015 and Serena Williams that a player set such a series. The American then won 27 games in a row.

Swiatek is aiming for a fifth consecutive WTA title in Rome this season after victories in Stuttgart, Miami, Indian Wells and Doha. Her last defeat dates back to mid-February when she lost to Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the eighth finals at the Dubai tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Swiatek will face Canada’s Bianca Andreescu (WTA 90). That put the Croatian Petra Martic (WTA 47) aside with two times 6-4.
