Fenerbahçe was eliminated by Kiev in the second qualifying round of the Champions League on Wednesday 27 July. When Vitaliy Buyalski scored the 0-1 in the 57th minute, Turkish fans started chanting Vladimir Putin’s name. Fenerbahçe still dragged out extra time, but lost 1-2. The first leg had ended 0-0.
The Turkish club is now being punished for “throwing objects and delivering an offensive message through provocative, inappropriate chants.”
