Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a gift to figure skater Kamila Valieva during a recent reception of Olympians in the Kremlin. The head of state congratulated the athlete on her birthday after the awards ceremony for the winners of the Olympics.
According to the frames shown in the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on the Russia-1 TV channel, Putin presented Valieva with a large bouquet of roses and a box. “With a handkerchief,” the president clarified, opening the gift. The figure skater thanked the head of state.
“Does your mother allow you to drink champagne?” Putin asked before raising a toast to Valieva. “It’s childish! This is Duchess! – answered the 16-year-old athlete.
Putin presented state decorations to winners of the Beijing Winter Olympics, including Valieva, on April 26. That day was her birthday. Valieva, as part of the Russian national team, won the team Olympic figure skating tournament, after which she found herself at the center of a doping scandal. After the team performances, it became known about the positive result of the doping test of the figure skater, passed in December 2021. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed the athlete to compete in the individual competition, where she took fourth place, failing the free program.
