Qatar and Senegal play a sort of ‘duel of the desperate’ in Group A at the World Cup this Friday (25th), at the Al Thumama Stadium, at 10am. The two teams need the victory, since they lost in the debut. The hosts were defeated by 2-0 by Ecuador, in the opening of the worldwhile the Senegalese were defeated by the same score to the Netherlands.

It will be the first duel in history between Qatar and Senegal. Soon an important game to define the future of the national teams. That’s because, if one of them loses, they’ll practically say goodbye to the World Cup.

Qatar are looking to bounce back from their opening defeat, being the only host country to lose in their World Cup debut. For this, only the victory matters, since a draw practically eliminates both teams. The tendency is for coach Félix Sánchez to repeat the debut lineup, betting on the attacking duo Akram Afif and Al-Haydos.

A likely lineup for Qatar has: Al-Sheeb; Al-Rawi, Salman and Abdelkarim Hassan; Pedro Miguel, Hatim, Boudiaf and Homan Ahmed; Almoez Ali, Akram Afif and Al-Haydos. Coach: Felix Sanchez.

The African team even played well against the Netherlands, but faltered in the final minutes and conceded two goals in five minutes. Without Mané, the great mission of coach Aliou Cissé is to find a good attack to make up for his absence. Ballo Touré and Kouyaté also miss the team, which will therefore have changes.

Therefore, a likely Senegal lineup has: Édouard Mendy; Formose Mendy, Koullibaly, Abdou Diallo and Sabaly; Nampalys Mendy, Gana Gueye, Pape Sarr; Ismaila Sarr, Boulaye Dia and Diatta.
