Real Madrid players beat Manchester City in the second leg of the semi-final of the Champions League and reached the final. The meeting took place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and ended in extra time with a score of 3:1.

In the 73rd minute, the English club put Riyad Mahrez ahead. This was enough for Manchester City to reach the final, but in the 90th minute, Real Madrid forward Rodrigo scored twice. In extra time, Karim Benzema’s penalty kick (95th minute) took Madrid to the final.

The Algerian midfielder became the first player in Manchester City history to score more than seven goals in a single Champions League season. 21-year-old Brazilian striker Rodrigo became the first player to score twice in the 90th minute of a Champions League play-off match.

The first semi-final meeting of the teams at the Etihad Stadium on April 26 ended with a victory for Manchester City with a score of 4:3.

Since the 2003/04 season, when the Champions League play-offs began to be held in the current format, Real Madrid became the first team to lose the first legs in the 1/8 finals (PSG – 0: 1), quarter-finals (Chelsea – 2: 3) and the semi-final (Manchester City – 3:4), but still reached the final.

Last season, Manchester City reached the Champions League final for the first time in their history, where they lost 0-1 to Chelsea. Real Madrid have won a record 13 Champions League victories and lost three more times in the final. Real Madrid last won the trophy in 2018.
