Real Sociedad and scoring Adnan Januzaj lift themselves more firmly into the top six after victory against low flyer

Real Sociedad has lifted itself more firmly into the top 6 on Thursday evening on the 36th match day of La Liga. In-house, low-flyer Cadiz went well ahead with 3-0.

It took 19 minutes before former AA Gent striker Alexander Sørloth broke the spell on a pass from veteran David Silva. In the second half, the host received a penalty, which Adnan Januzaj (53.) cashed in. Portu (90.+7) in turn deepened the score in the final seconds with a striking eleven meter. Januzaj was allowed to rest after 78 minutes.

Thanks to the win, the Basques take a solid option in sixth place in the final standings of the Spanish highest football division and they also have a view on fifth position. They count 59 points on two match days from the end. That is two less than Real Betis and six more than Villarreal, who will still be in action later in the evening.

Both fifth and sixth places entitle you to a direct ticket to the Europa League next season. Number seven has to settle for the qualifiers for the Conference League.
