“I am very happy that I will participate in the Tour with Team DSM,” he wrote on Twitter. “I can’t wait to be at the Grand Départ in Copenhagen in a few weeks.”

It will be his ninth Tour de France for 31-year-old Bardet. The Frenchman has already been on the final podium of La Grande Boucle twice. In 2016 he was second behind Chris Froome and third a year later after Froome and Rigoberto Uran. Bardet has already won three stages and the mountain jersey (in 2019).

Last year Bardet rode the Giro d’Italia (7th) and the Vuelta a España (25th and stage win). In the past Giro, the Frenchman had to give up in the thirteenth stage due to illness. He was fourth in the standings at the time.

The Tour starts on July 1 with a short individual time trial in Copenhagen, Denmark.
