The WBO world champion plans to fight with the owner of the WBC and WBA championship belts Andrey Sirotkin. Magomed Kurbanov himself told RBC Sport about this.
“Now it’s quite difficult to talk about career development, but the next year will be difficult, it will be extremely difficult to hold championship fights. We need to look for ways out, I want to box with the first number of the rating (up to 72kg) in Russia, Andrei Sirotkin. He is a good professional boxer, ready to rise to him and share the ring with him. I also plan to box with Fedor Chudinov, I am ready to rise to his weight category, ”Kurbanov said.
Kurbanov was supposed to defend the WBO International championship belt on March 26 in a fight against Patrick Teixeira (Brazil), but the fight was canceled due to sanctions from the international yuoxer associations.
The World Boxing Organization (WBO), the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) refused to sanction professional fights in Russia because of a special operation in the Donbass.
The fight between Kurbanov and Teixeira was supposed to take place back in December, but the fight was canceled just a few hours before the tournament due to health problems with the Russian boxer. At the same time, the teams agreed to postpone the fight to 2022, and on February 9, a corresponding agreement was signed.
Kurbanov spent 22 fights in the ring and won them all. The boxer performs in the weight category up to 69 kg.
Andrey Sirotkin performs in the middle weight category (up to 72kg), the boxer has the belts WBC Asian champion in super middleweight, WBC Eurasian champion, WBA Asian champion, WBO European champion, WBA Intercontinental middleweight champion weight.
