Sailor Emma Plasschaert is sixth after day two at the European championship in France

Emma Plasschaert was able to rise one place on Thursday to sixth place on the second day of the European Championship sailing in the category ILCA 6 (ex-Laser Radial) in Hyères, France.

The 29-year-old from Ostend finished fifth and eighth on the first day on Wednesday. On Thursday she did a little better with a sixth and second place. The two-time world champion (2018 and 2021), third at the World Cup in Texas in mid-October, now has 13 points. She is 5 points behind the Swiss vice world champion Maud Jayet and the Canadian Sarah Douglas (who cannot compete for the European title). The Polish Agata Barwinska is third (7 points), the British Hannah Snellgrove fourth (9 points) and the Dutch Marit Bouwmeester fifth (11 points).

Eline Verstraelen was able to keep her 66th place. After a 39th and 28th place on Wednesday, she finished 40th and 24th. Her total stands at 91 points.

And ILCA 7 (ex-Laser) is Wannes Van Laer 19th with 18 points and William De Smet 21st with 19 points. Britain’s Michael Beckett is in the lead with four points, ahead of his compatriot Elliot Hanson (7 pts) and Hungary’s Jonatan Vadnaj (9 pts).
