Continuously since 2009, the operation, launched in 2003, runs parallel to the organization of Tree Week. Wherever the Écolo party has a local, a distribution of small fruit trees is organized, during the weekend closest to November 25, this feast of Saint Catherine, where all trees take root. For the Greens, the action is obviously concrete, it is also symbolic: “The mode of production which aims above all for profit creates the relocation of employment, food that is not always of good quality, health risks and an impact increased on the Environment, summarizes Alexandra Dehez, regional co-president. Supporting short circuits also means encouraging citizens to change their consumption habits. Why not start this weekend, by planting a fruit tree yourself?”.
For this 2022 edition, it is mainly currants, blackcurrants and raspberries that will be distributed on the territory of Charleroi Métropole. Here are the main events: this Saturday, November 26, in Charleroi, on the Place Verte, from 10 a.m. to noon; in Châtelet, on the Place du Marché, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; in Chimay, on the Ravel, in the center of the town, from 10 a.m. to noon and in Gerpinnes, in two places, place de l’Eglise in Acoz and place d’Himiée in Hymiée, from 10 a.m. to noon, both times.
Other meetings are also scheduled for this Sunday, November 27: in Gerpinnes, in two places, place des Marronniers, in Joncret and at Try d’Haies, in Loverval, from 10 a.m. to noon, both times; in Momignies, Kursaal bar, from 10 a.m. to noon and in Montigny-le-Tilleul, at 32 rue de la Place, from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
Finally, on Sivry-Rance, the distribution will take place a little later: it will be on Saturday December 3, at the Parc de Sautin, from 10 a.m. to noon.
