Sovcombank is ready to participate in the fight for the title sponsorship of the Russian Premier League (RPL) only in case of a big discount. This was announced to RBC Sport by the co-owner and first deputy chairman of Sovcombank Sergey Khotimsky.
“There was quite a lot of excitement, because we lived in a different reality – so much [было] international involvement in sports, the cost of advertising was different, but now some of the price targets that were in that year are absolutely not relevant. Therefore, our position is as follows: if there is a large price reduction relative to the levels that were discussed, we can look again, participate. And if the RPL finds those who want to at last year’s levels [спонсировать]then we definitely passed, ”Khotimsky said.
In the spring, RBC Sport reported that Sberbank, VTB and Sovcombank were considering the possibility of participating in a tender for the right to become the title partner of the RPL. Sources said that a specific proposal came from Sovcombank, which can offer about 1.2 billion rubles. for each year of cooperation. At the same time, the tender that was announced by the Russian Auction House did not take place. According to RBC Sport, after the start of the special operation, VTB and Sberbank stopped considering the possibility of fighting for the title partnership.
Later head of the RPL Ashot Khachaturyants confirmed “RBC Sport” that the offer of Sovcombank was 1.2 billion. However, he said that the tender was postponed indefinitely. As a result, the tender under the leadership of the RAD did not take place.
The day before, RBC Sport sources reported that the National Payment Card System (NSPK, the operator of the Mir payment system) claims to be the title sponsor of the RPL. The interlocutors of RBC Sport said that at the moment NSPK is the favorite in the dispute for the title partnership of the RPL, but they refused to name the amount of the contract. They added that, with a high degree of probability, if the NSPK receives the title partnership, the RPL will receive the name “Mir” Russian Premier League.
For several years now, Tinkoff has been the title sponsor of the RPL, which, according to the interlocutors of RBC Sport, pays about 330 million rubles a year to the RPL.
