Spanish national coach Luis Enrique immediately lures more than 150,000 fans with a live stream on Twitch: “And tomorrow I will do it again”

As if the many press conferences in the run-up to the World Cup weren’t enough: Luis Enrique, national coach of Spain, answered questions from fans via Twitch for one hour on Friday evening. That is a streaming platform on which mainly gamers share live videos. As far as we know, a first in international football.

A little after 8 p.m. Friday night, Luis Enrique began streaming his first ever video on Twitch. At one point, more than 150,000 fans were watching and listening to the Spanish national coach live.

Enrique first spoke himself, but then also answered questions from fans. When asked who his favorites are to win the World Cup, he replied: “To be on the safe side, I would say Brazil and Argentina. Then France, the current champion. Then come Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, England and Belgium.”

“Tomorrow Again”

Enrique will just go live streaming again on Saturday. “But if I don’t feel like it, I won’t. As I said before: this depends on nothing or no one. As long as I want to do it, I will. And given the response, well above my expectations, we will be here again tomorrow.”

It is unique that a national coach communicates so openly with fans, in the run-up to a major tournament. The intention is that Enrique will continue to stream during the World Cup.

Spain is in group E at the World Cup in Qatar. Next Wednesday, the Spaniards will play their opening match against Costa Rica. Then they look Germany and Japan in the eye.
