On court 12, our compatriot defeated Bulgarian Isabella Shinikova (WTA 217) in two sets: 6-0 and 6-3 after 50 minutes. Earlier, Wicky had already knocked the Austrian Julia Grabner (WTA 141) out of the tournament in the opening round. In the final qualifying round, she faces the winner of the game between Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova (WTA 219) and South Korean Su Jeong Jang (WTA 158).
The 32-year-old Wickmayer, semi-finalist at the US Open in 2009, is going for a thirteenth participation in the grass grand slam. She was there continuously from 2008 to 2019 before her maternity leave. In 2011, she made it to the eighth finals.
Later on Wednesday, Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 148) also hopes to go to the final qualifying round. Then she first has to pass the American Catherine Harrison (WTA 264). Bonaventure is aiming for a second main draw in London. She was eliminated in the first round three years ago.
Elise Mertens (WTA 30), Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 46), Maryna Zanevska (WTA 68) and Greet Minnen (WTA 89) are already sure of their place in the main draw, just like the departing Kirsten Flipkens (WTA 257), who uses a protected ranking.
