Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol in the championship fight with Saul Alvarez showed himself as an improved version of Rocky Marciano, Oleg Taktarov, the first Russian UFC champion, told RBC Sport.

“The last two rounds are something, great attack, great defense. All I saw was an improved version of Rocky Marciano. Bivol’s technique is even better than Rocky’s. He did an excellent job tactically. Bivol is just a genius, one of the smartest boxers in history. I’m just in shock, I thought that such a box remained in the 70s, but here it is right in front of me. Just fantastic,” said Taktarov.

Russian Dmitry Bivol defeated the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez and defended the World Boxing Association (WBA) super light heavyweight title (up to 79.38 kg).

The fight took place in Las Vegas and ended. The Russian won Alvarez by unanimous decision. All three judges gave the victory to Bivol – 115:113, 115:113, 115:113.

Alvarez is the absolute world champion in the second middleweight (up to 76.2 kg). At stake in this fight was only Bivol’s belt.

Bivol last December defended his WBA super champion title by defeating compatriot Umar Salamov in Yekaterinburg. In total, the 31-year-old boxer has 20 victories in 20 fights in the professional ring.

Rocky Marciano is an undefeated American professional boxer, the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world from September 23, 1952 to November 30, 1956. The only undefeated boxer to hold the world heavyweight title.
