Russia’s Lyudmila Samsonova defeated China’s Wang Siyu in the semifinals of the WTA 250 tennis tournament in Washington. The meeting ended with the score 6:1, 6:1.

The match lasted 1 hour and 7 minutes. Samsonova (60th racket of the world) filed right through four times, made one double fault and converted five break points out of eight. The representative of China (95th number in the WTA rating) performed four aces, made four double faults and did not convert a single break point.

At this tournament, the fifth racket of Russia also beat the 30th racket of the world from Belgium, Elise Mertens (7:6 (7:4), 6:4), the 69th racket of the world from Australia, Ayla Tomlyanovic (4:6, 6:3, 6:2) and the 10th racket of the world from Great Britain Emma Radukanu (7:6 (8:6), 6:1). In the final of the tournament, Samsonova will meet with Estonian Kaya Kanepi (37th number in the WTA rating).

The Washington Women’s Hard Tennis Tournament has been held since 2012. Among its winners were Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova (twice) and Ekaterina Makarova, as well as Americans Jessica Pegula and Sloane Stevens. This year the prize fund of the tournament is $251,750.
