Russian tennis player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova failed to reach the second round of the tournament in Rome with a prize fund of €2.52 million.

In the first round, the Russian, seeded at the tournament under the 14th number, lost to the Canadian Leila Fernandez with a score of 6:1, 2:6, 2:6.

The next opponent of 19-year-old Fernandez will be Russian Daria Kasatkina, who in her first round match won Slovenian Tamara Zidansek.

Pavlyuchenkova, world No. 20 and Russia No. 1, has not won since January. She did not play after the Australian Open due to a knee injury. The 30-year-old tennis player returned to the court at the end of April in Madrid, where in the first round lost Spaniard Sara Sorribes-Tormo (3:6, 6:2, 3:6).
