The KHL has no legal grounds to refuse to register the contract of Avangard Omsk with American forward Reed Boucher, who was convicted of rape. About this “Match TV” declared KHL President Alexei Morozov.
“The KHL has no legal grounds to refuse to register Reed Boucher’s contract with the club if the document meets the requirements of the regulations and legislation. The League condemns any form of violence, but at the same time stands for the observance of all legal norms. The employer in this situation is the club, so the ethical part of the issue is on its side, ”said Morozov.
Avangard explained the signing of a player convicted of rape
Avangard announced the signing of a one-year contract with Bush on June 18. The general manager of the club, Alexei Volkov, said that every person deserves a second chance.
In February, Bush was sentenced in the United States to four years of probation and a year of probation for raping a minor. The incident happened in 2011 when he was 17 years old.
The hockey player and the victim were then engaged in the development program of the US national team and lived in the same house. Bush faced from 25 years in prison to life imprisonment, but the court decided to reclassify the article to a softer part as part of a plea agreement.
After the verdict, the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, for which Bush then played, terminated the contract with him.
