Olympique Loynnais has had a difficult season. With two games remaining, the chances of seeing OL play in Europe next season are very slim. They currently have 55 points, while Strasbourg, which occupies the last place synonymous with qualification in Europe, has four more.
In its newspaper of the day, L’Equipe looks back on this failed season. The French daily evokes first of all problems of adaptation of the trainer Peter Bosz but also disagreements between leaders and even behavior problems among the players.
And the episode that can probably best illustrate this last element of the answer is the way Marcelo, a Lyon defender, was asked to leave the club.
After a heavy defeat suffered in Angers, the mines had to be crestfallen in the locker room of Jason Denayer’s teammates. But in reality, defender Marcelo was overcome with flatulence in the locker room. And this caused the hilarity of the players.
Juninho, sporting director of OL, and his trainer Peter Bosz did not hear it that way. This did not make them laugh and they decided to dismiss the player from the group for “inappropriate behavior”.
He was placed in reserve before reaching an agreement on the termination of his contract a few months later.
