New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin was one of three contenders for the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the best goaltender of the season in the NHL. About it informs club press office.
The Russian will compete for the trophy with Swedish Calgary Flames goaltender Jakob Markström and Finnish Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros.
Last season, Shesterkin finished sixth in the league in wins (36) and third in shutouts (six). At the same time, the Russian took first place in terms of missed goals per game (2.07) and first place in percentage of reflected shots (0.935).

Shesterkin, 26, became the first Rangers goalkeeper since the 2012/13 season to be nominated for Vezina. Nine years ago, Swedish New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was nominated for the award and eventually won it.
Shesterkin could become the sixth Rangers goaltender to win the Vezina Trophy. In addition to Lundqvist, John Vanbiesbrook (1985/86), Dave Kerr (1939/40), and Ed Giacomin and Gilles Villemour (they shared the award in the 1970/71 season) achieved this.
