The widow of legendary Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Lev Yashin, Valentin Yashin, has died. She was 91 years old. About it reported in the Telegram channel of the Dynamo football club.
“For generations of Dynamo players, she was a real symbol of the club, the personification of the greatest football family in the history of domestic football,” the message says.
The club expressed its condolences to the family and friends of Yashina.
She will be buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow, the club promised to name the date later.
Despite her age, Yashin attended Dynamo matches: in April she watched from the stands behind the club’s match against Akhmat in the Russian championship. Before the start of the same match, she congratulated Dynamo goalkeeper Anton Shunin on his 100th clean sheet in his career.
The Yashins have been married since 1954. Before marriage, Valentina worked as a correspondent for the Tushino City Radio Broadcasting and met Leo on the dance floor. She said that Leo repeatedly hinted at a wedding, but she decided to marry him after several years at 24.
Lev Yashin is the only goalkeeper in history to receive the Golden Ball. He is the best goalkeeper of the 20th century according to FIFA. Yashin died on March 20, 1990 in Moscow at the age of 61.
In 2019, France Football established a prize for the best goalkeeper in the world. The trophy was named after the goalkeeper of Dynamo Moscow and the USSR national team. Reacting to the news about the establishment of this award, Yashina said that she was “very pleased.” She suggested that the current youth of the goalkeeper Yashin “already does not know.” “30 years have passed since he died. And before that, he no longer played, ”the widow explained.
