The unusual event happened at halftime of the first game. Around 3 p.m. this Saturday. It was when the referee, Oscar Antonio Pérez, 48, was waiting for the resumption of the game.

As published by the newspaper The Gazette, the referee was called by an individual who was on the other side of the fence. And when he approached him he had a strong exchange of words that culminated in being shot with a firearm. were at least two shotsaccording to the account of some witnesses.

one of the shots hit in the back of the referee who had to be transferred urgently. He was first taken to the Padilla hospital, but since the condition was complicated, it was decided to transfer him to the Parque Sanatorium.

It was reported that the patient had a gunshot wound to the dorso-lumbar region. He underwent surgery and according to the last medical report he is in reserved statusbut out of danger.

“He is in therapy to be more controlled. But it is still at risk. The man is under constant evaluation and is being cared for by sanatorium staff,” said the head of the San José Police Station, Héctor Falcón.

The special criminalistics units of the North Regional Unit intervened, in charge of the inspector commissioner Carlos Daniel Ruiz, head of Zone II. And now they are waiting for the evolution of the referee to take his testimony and try to clarify the reason for the aggression.

Oscar Pérez, the referee who was shot on Saturday at the amateur soccer tournament, is a recognized figure in sports in the province. He has a long journey in the Tucumana soccer league.

Before the pandemic, Pérez controlled the Primera A matches of the local league. And at the time he was considered one of the best referees in the province.

However, and as published by the Tucuman newspaper, he had already been attacked on a playing field before.

It was in 2014 in the match between Marapa and San Lorenzo de Santa Ana. There, Pérez was attacked by a soccer player on the field itself: striker José Moreno, punched him twice and the game had to be suspended.
