Last Friday (5), Grêmio beat Guarani 2-0 with goals scored by Villasanti and Gabriel Teixeira in the second half. The result marked a taboo break, as it had been more than 100 days since Tricolor had won a match away from Porto Alegre. The last time had been on April 27, when the team beat Operário 1-0, in Ponta Grossa.

Despite the victory, the coach Roger Machado minimized the breaking of the taboo, ensuring that internally there was no pressure for the team to win again away from home. At the moment, the team has 16 unbeaten games, but many draws. The Tricolor lost only two matches in this Série B. Roger also indicated that his critics will now invent another way to criticize him.

“Internally, it doesn’t take any weight off. Externally, maybe. The result of the victory today clearly gives us two important points, but the 15 unbeaten games with the away draws were also counted as important games. Internally, not much changes. Externally, perhaps the approach is different. They will look for another narrative line to continue, in a way, putting an expectation different from what we have internally”, said the Grêmio coach.

“It was a consistent match. Until the first 35 minutes of the first half we controlled well, then the opponent pushed us back. The second half was different, we started with control and lost. The opponent made the exchanges and we also did it to add new blood and speed. We built our second goal in the pivot and infiltration, and the opponent plays. We took the goal at the very end, but the victory was achieved. Very important victory for the moment of the competition, it comes at a very adjusted time”, added the coach.

At the moment, Grêmio reaches 40 points and reduces the distance to the leader Cruzeiro to six points, but the team from Minas still plays in the round and faces Tombense, in Mineirão. In the next round, the Gauchos return to the field to face Operário on Tuesday (9), at the Arena. The people from Paraná are in 15th place in Serie B with 24 points and come from a victory over Náutico.
