Trainer Mikel Arteta extends contract with Arsenal until 2025

Mikel Arteta, trainer of football club Arsenal, remains loyal to the Gunners for longer. The Spaniard signed a new contract that links him to the club until the end of the 2024/2025 season, Arsenal reported on its website on Friday.

Arteta was active as a player at Arsenal between 2011 and 2016. Between 2016 and 2020 he worked for Manchester City as an assistant to coach Pep Guardiola. In January 2020, Arteta decided to try it himself as a trainer and took over at Arsenal from compatriot Unai Emery, who was sacked a few weeks before his arrival after disappointing results.

Arsenal, where a Belgian currently plays with Albert Sambi Lokonga, is having a good season under Arteta. It is currently fourth in the league and is still in the running for a Champions League ticket. The last time the London club took part in the Champions League was during the 2016/2017 season. Then it fell in the eighth finals against Bayern Munich.

To date, Arteta has won two trophies with Arsenal. In the FA Cup final in 2020, the city rivals Chelsea defeated 2-1. A few weeks later, Arsenal also won the Community Shield after a final against Liverpool.

In addition to Arteta, Arsenal also extended the contract of Jonas Eidevall, the trainer of the women’s team. He will sign up until the 2023/2024 season. Eidevall is currently involved with the women of Arsenal in a title battle with Chelsea, which has 1 point more. The last day of play will be completed in the Women Super League on Sunday.
