The devotion for Diego Maradona on the part of the Neapolitans has no end. Now, the neighborhood of Scampia has been chosen as the venue for a new and particular statue of the “Ten”: it will only be his left foot.
A work that, like the previous one exhibited inside the Napoli stadium, will be paid for by the artist Stefano Ceci. Thus, the city of Naples, in Italy, will offer a new tribute to the Argentine star.
Ceci, the footballer’s former manager, will prepare a three-dimensional work of Maradona’s left foot and it will be exhibited in the Scampia neighborhood, a place inhabited by some 80,000 inhabitants located in the north of Naples.
“I thought Scampia was the ideal place for this project, born from a proposal by Stefano Ceci and which I discussed with the president of the club, Aurelio De Laurentiis,” said the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi.
A miniature of what the new statue of Diego Maradona will look like was presented, paying homage to his left foot. It will be exhibited in the city of Naples.
“I think Maradona represents the symbol of the recovery of a man who, with his talent, managed to reach the top of the world of football,” Manfredi said of the Argentine star who died in November 2020.
“In this way, the statue of Maradona will be the collective heritage of the tifosi not only inside the stadium but in the city and taking it to Scampia is a sign of redemption of one of the districts that in the collective imagination has the greatest difficulties”, explained the mayor of Naples.
Manfredi announced the choice of the neighborhood where the statue will be located during the ceremony held in the Giunta di Palazzo San Giacomo room, where Ceci handed him a miniature of the workwhich will be made of the Argentine crack.
Also Napoli president De Laurentiis received a limited edition reproduction of Maradona’s left foot.
“Diego does not need to be commented on, he needs to find a definitive and correct placement on this territory and we will do it with this project,” Ceci guaranteed.
It was also announced that glories of the Neapolitan team will participate in a ceremony for the placement of Maradona in the San Gennaro chapel, in the Cathedral of Naples, organized by the association “Legends of Napoli”.
Former president Corrado Ferlaino and former footballers Alessandro Renica, Giovanni Francini, Fernando De Napoli, Raffaele Di Fusco, Giuseppe Volpecina, Giuseppe Bruscolotti, Antonio Carannante confirmed their presence at the ceremony scheduled for this Tuesday.
