In another calculation, Germany comes off even worse: scientists from Oxford University in England have calculated the percentage probability of winning the tournament. All results from 2018 were included in the analysis.

The probability that the DFB team will be world champions for the fifth time after 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014 in Qatar is just 3.84 percent. That only makes ninth place. According to this calculation, too, Brazil is number one favorite for the World Cup. The Selecao has 14.72 percent, Argentina is also second in this ranking with 14.36 percent. They are followed by: The Netherlands (3rd / 7.84 percent), Spain (4th / 7.03 percent), France (5th / 6.37 percent), Belgium (6th / 6.31 percent), Portugal ( 7th / 5.6 percent) and Denmark (8th / 4.94 percent).
