Vanaken responds to van der Vaart's criticisms: "I let people talk"

If you ask Hans Vanaken his worst memory with the Devils, the answer is likely to be Belgium – Netherlands on June 3, 2022. That evening, the Belgians were swept away (1-4) and Hans Vanaken was substituted at halftime. After the meeting, the former international Rafael van der Vaart, consultant for Dutch television, had not spared the Brugeois.

“When we hear about the Belgian league, we often mention the name of Vanaken. Vanaken here. Vanaken there. But he really sucks. I had heard he scored easily so I expected him to reaches a certain level. Instead, he was substituted after 45 minutes…”said van der Vaart.

A real tackle in the throat to which Vanaken reacted this Saturday. The day after the match against Egypt, the Devil spoke about these incendiary statements. “I don’t listen to comments and I let people talk. In some games we are good and in others not so much.”

This was again the case on Friday. Vanaken was replaced at the break by Martinez. “But I was not disappointed to be substituted. Three of us went out. The coach wanted to give playing time to several players. I’m happy that he gave me a new opportunity. Given the competition, you have to seize every opportunity.”

But that may not be enough to start the World Cup in the shoes of a holder.

His teammates still believe in Hazard: “Eden will not be incredible from the first game”
