The fourth session at the Austin FC training ground was also the last for VfB Stuttgart. We were there – and also look back at the game against 1. FC Köln.

On Friday morning (local time) in Austin, the black buses of VfB Stuttgart drove one last time to St. David’s Performance Center on the outskirts of the city. For the fourth time during his stay in the USA, coach Michael Wimmer asked his players to unite on the grounds of Austin FC. On Saturday (10 p.m. CET/Sky and DAZN) the game against 1. FC Köln is still on the program. The team attends the Houston Texans’ NFL match against the Washington Commanders on Sunday and returns to Stuttgart on Monday.

“So far it has been a good mixture of fun, training on the pitch, the free time that we could enjoy,” said Pascal Stenzel on Friday, “we had a family, relaxed atmosphere.” It will not change completely if VfB will play against Cologne on Saturday, but the sporting ambition will probably come through in both teams.

Nobody should get hurt in the game

“When you’re on the pitch, everyone wants to win and play a sensible game,” announced the VfB right-back, “that also applies to us.” But it is even more important that “nobody gets injured on either side”. . Whether and how long he himself will be on the pitch is still open. Before the trip to Austin, he had been out twice with the flu.

On Friday afternoon there were no more appointments for the VfB pros. After the game on Saturday there will be a small celebration together with the people of Cologne.
