The jersey is a reminiscence of winning the German championship in 1992. One of its essential elements was the white vertical stripe pattern. The club from Cannstatt appeared in this kit for the away game at Bayer Leverkusen on match day 34. Many fans still associate it with the magical moment in the 86th minute when Guido Buchwald headed VfB 2-1 up – paving the way for the historic title win.
Wehrle hopes to continue the series
“The special shirt shows that, in close cooperation with JAKO, we can always implement ideas that fit VfB perfectly and are not off-the-shelf products,” VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle is quoted as saying in a club statement. “The jersey ties in with the spirit of 1992, which should also give us wings and bring us luck on Saturday against 1. FC Köln. We have always won in the previous JAKO special jerseys and hope it stays that way.”
