“This one is for Kyle,” said Simon Whitlock after winning the World Cup of Darts for Australia alongside Damon Heta. “The Wizard” was referring to the late Kyle Anderson.

He passed away last summer at the age of 33. Anderson came from a real darts family and was much loved in the darts world. He had retired from the PDC earlier that year to spend more time with his family in Australia. After all, he had had a second son. But he passed away suddenly in August. Anderson participated in a total of four World Cups, with Whitlock.

“I’ve been thinking about him all day,” said the latter after his triumph in Frankfurt. “We miss him very much. Kyle was a fantastic guy and a great darts player. It’s unbelievable that we can now raise this trophy for him. He must be doing a backflip somewhere.”

“I played his walk-on song for my first game against Belgium,” said Heta, who raised more than 30,000 euros for Anderson’s family. “That has inspired me a bit. To then win for Kyle and Australia, that’s incredible.”

Dimitri Van den Bergh, who defeated his housemate Heta 4-2, knew the regretted Anderson very well. He was in the same management. When ‘The DreamMaker’ saw Australia take the world title in the car, he fell silent for a moment.

“The Kyle… So beautiful that they name him”, says Van den Bergh, who at the same time knocked on his heart. “He was an incredible guy. When you met him, you never forgot who he was. He was always present and a real joker. He had several first names: Noel James Kyle. When he first met Heta’s wife – Megan – he introduced himself as Kyle. The next time Megan saw him, he pretended to be his twin brother Noel. And she got away with that. He was just like that, always positive and good-natured. It’s a shame we lost him so soon.”
